PID Controller to shut down smoker
This unit is a take off of the unit designed by Rob
at the Bradley Smoker Forum. His unit controls the internal temperature of the
smoking cabinet. This unit monitors the internal temperature of the product
being smoked or cooked. When the products internal temperature reaches the PID's
preset the power to the heating coil is dropped out. I made this because I have
fallen to sleep and have over cooked 20 pound of home made Kielbasa.

How to use the unit
Plug the unit into a separate power
supply. Remove the cord from the cabinet and plug it into the back of the
assemble PID One-shot unit. Take the extra purchased cord and plug it into the
PID One-shot and into the back of the cabinet. With your product (sausage or
other meats) in the cabinet feed the temperature probe into the cabinet and push
it into the thickest part of the product.
Set up your smoker as you normally do after you set the preset
temp. on the PID One-shot. When the push button is pressed this will hold the
circuit until the internal temperature is satisfied in the product. The circuit
will drop out when this happens and the yellow LED will be out. The only way to
reset the unit is to raise the preset on the PID and push the button or use the
by-pass switch which over rides the PID. If the temperature of the product drops
the PID will not reset until the push button is pressed. **
** Note the SSR-10D has been replace with a 12 volt auto relay.
The reason being is the SSR-10D leaks voltage across the contacts causing the
circuit to start prematurely and not letting the circuit to stay disabled.
